Christmas Tree Storage and Ornament Storage Tips from the Pros | Countryside Self Storage
For many of us, the best part of the holidays is the run-up to the holidays themselves. We love decking the halls, trimming the tree, and putting out the ornaments. Putting all of that stuff away, though, is generally a lot less fun.
It doesn’t matter which of the winter holidays you celebrate; the end of the holiday season is always a bit of a downer. This is especially true if, like so many of us, you invested in lots of new holiday ornaments, décor, and artificial Christmas trees and now don’t know where to put them.
If you don’t have space to store them in the house, it’s best to move them into your Missouri storage units, but that brings its own problems and questions. How do you properly store a Christmas tree? Fortunately, we’ve taken a lot of what we know from the self storage industry and scoured the web for some of the best tips to help you store your trees, ornaments, and other decorations like a pro!
Ditch the cardboard boxes! Cardboard boxes are a great (and inexpensive) way to pack and store lots of things. When it comes to seasonal items that you constantly bring in and out of storage, though, they don’t tend to hold up as well over time. Plus, holiday decorations are often fragile, unusually sized, and sometimes pointy. They can also be sensitive to fluctuations in temperature and humidity. This all means that plastic storage containers are a better fit for ornaments, wreaths, and décor. As always, if you’re storing stuff that temperature or humidity might damage, it’s best to spring for climate-controlled self storage.
Get a Christmas tree bag. While Christmas trees may be among the largest and most difficult to store of all holiday decorations, they’re also popular, which means plenty of innovations in Christmas tree storage have appeared over the years. These days, you can find some great (and inexpensive) Christmas tree bags that have internal structures to help protect your tree while it’s in storage. Plus, the handles on Christmas tree bags make moving your artificial tree a whole lot easier!
How to store your ornaments. As with Christmas trees, plenty of handy tools are available to help store even the most fragile of ornaments. You’ll find everything from wheels for winding strings of holiday lights to cases made to hold those fragile glass baubles that are such an integral part of so much Christmas décor. If you’re strapped for cash, though, you can turn to some clever DIY options. For example, many of those breakable ornaments will fit neatly into empty egg cartons! Once you have them all carefully packed away, you can put them into plastic bins and put those into your Missouri self storage unit.
How to store your wreaths. Wreaths look great on our front doors around the holidays, but they can be particularly tricky to store the rest of the time. Fortunately, once again, you’ll find ready-made solutions in the form of sturdy wreath boxes. Looking for some other ideas? Garment bags and even coat racks may provide a solution!
